Horseshoe Bay Sunrise

The last sunrise I photographed in Bermuda was at Horseshoe Bay, on the morning that Hurricane Irene made its closest approach to the island. Luckily, the storm was quite far away and only resulted in increased winds and slightly larger-than-normal waves. The sunrise also appeared to be more colourful than usual, and the waves were reflecting the colours quite well. I decided to take advantage of the bigger surf and reflective colours and focused mainly on the waves that morning. Here are the results:

SummerBall 2011

In June, I photographed the Kent Union SummerBall for the second consecutive year (to see the 2010 photos, click here). Similar to last year’s event, it was a fun-filled night with live music from Clacket Lane, Everything Everything, McFly, and Tinchy Stryder, as well as fairground rides, food stalls, and multiple bars. Here are a few atmosphere shots, followed by photos of the live acts. Feel free to click on any of the thumbnails to see a larger picture.

Early Mornings

Yesterday, a new section of Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve was opened. Since most of the new section is coastal, I decided to shoot it this morning at sunrise. I could have picked better timing though – today has the longest daylight hours of this year, so a 4.30am wake-up call was in order!

SummerBall 2010

On June 5, Kent Union held the annual SummerBall on the University of Kent campus. This year’s attractions included fairground stalls, bumper cars, food stalls, studio photographers, several bars, and various musical artists. The main acts were Keynestock winners History of the Trade (unfortunately I wasn’t able to shoot Keynestock this year, so check out Gloda’s photos), followed by Clacket Lane, Tinie Tempah, Feeder, Florence and the Machine, and finally Maybe Gaga. The second stage featured several popular DJs such as DJ Lefty, Jo Whiley, Wideboys, and Pendulum. Here’s a selection of photos from the evening:

Bermuda Sunrise

Over spring break, Gloda came to visit me in Bermuda. We spent most of the time playing tourist, going to the beach, and getting drunk off rum swizzle One morning, we decided to get up at 5am to shoot the sunrise on Southlands Beach. Ironically enough, it was the morning after we were supposed to leave – having been delayed by a week by the volcano eruption in Iceland. It turned out not to be a bad thing – the sunrise was quite pretty that morning.

Dolls & Puppets

A couple weeks ago, Dan Neighbour (Modelling President of the Photography and Modelling Society) and I came up with the idea to do a photoshoot with models dressed up as various types of dolls and puppets. The shoot was a lot of fun; there was a great bunch of people, and though it was a long day, we all had a good time.
